This is actually one recurring dream I haven't told anyone about. Mostly because it doesn't bother me, but it's really wierd. Wierd in that something happened in it that has never happened in any dream I've ever had before it.
Okay, so from about age 10 or so, I've been having recurring dreams about a house. When they (the dreams) first started, I could stand outside the house & see it. It was an old farm house but bigger. It was like the cover of the first edition of Ray Bradbury's From the Dust Returned. I'll link the pic at the end. At that time, I knew my way around the entire house, I knew where everything was. & in the cupola up at the very top of the house, there was a little room small enough for a 10-year-old me to squeeze into. Think Alice & the door to Wonderland. The room was a child's play room & it was really old. Just like the whole house. I remember the original house had 3 different colors of carpeting: crimson, royal blue, & this dark blue-green.
As I got older, the house grew as well. After a while, I didn't go outside & stand infront of it & look at it. I found my way to the front door, but something always held me back from leaving, like I was waiting for someone. I usually turned back to go find whatever who or what I was looking for. By the time I was 15 or 16, the house was bigger than the hotel in The Shining if you've seen that. So, pretty big. The only reason I know that it was the same house was the carpeting & the woodwork around the base of the walls.
Several times, I referred to it as Alburnett High School & it presented qualities of the school, like the backstage area & the band/choir room. Actually, just those two areas. The staircases turned into industrial stairwells like in an old abandoned factory. I hid in the stage area several times, but I'm not sure what or who I was hiding from. Some of my classmates made appearances during that period, but it wasn't very often.
Freshman year here, the house was HUGE. Seriously, I don't even know what to compare it to other than the system underneath New York City. There are so many levels in the house now, so many grand staircases & corridors, & rooms. It's a labyrinth now. Freshman year, I called it Central College, but it wasn't the college. Everything was inside. It would be like making a huge building covering everything on campus, all the buildings would be put together, including the residence halls, townhouses, library, everything. I guess it would almost be like Hogwarts, but still the house.
Ever since it started, the house has presented a shopping mall quality to it as well, I think there is actually a mall built onto it somewhere.
But the wierd thing was 2 nights ago. There have never been more than 20 people hovering around the house at once, that I've seen. But I was with 2 Skinny Dorks & the Family & half of the Republican National Convention, even though 2SD & myself are not Republican. 2SD & I were walking down what I've nicknamed the "Never Ending Spiral Staircase" talking to Dubya. & I spied Arnold Schwartzenegger (sp?) going down the staircase above us. There had to be at least 5000 people there, in my house.
The other wierd thing was that I was going to go have dinner at a friend's apartment, but the whole complex was inside the house. So, when I was looking for it, I went down a corridor too far, & ran into about 5 penthouses next to them. So, I turned around & went back. I was decending a small flight of stairs, when this black girl, my age, asked me where the penthouses were, I told her, she thanked me, & we went our separate ways. I recognized her, but I don't know who she is. And, again, the only reason I know it's the same house, is the carpeting & the woodwork.
But the thing is, the house has amassed an ambience all its own, so I know it's the same place, but it just keeps getting bigger & bigger & bigger. & the only thing I know that exists that I can compare it to, is what is known as a memory palace. The problem is, I don't know how I built it. I can't access it when I want to, only when it wants me to. I have no control over it whatsoever, I can only control myself. I didn't even know memory palaces existed until I read Cabinet of Curiosities summer of 2003. So, it's one of those things that I don't understand how or why it decided to come to me, but I know it's going to be there forever. & it's going to keep getting bigger.
