Ah the ever popular question. Is getting gifts a superficial tradition that is overpowering the spirituality behind the holiday? Or does it give you the connecting force to get together and celebrate the holidays with your family instead of being embroiled in their religion? Do you just like giving and getting gifts, or do you accept both the social tradition of gifting and still feel like you keep your spirituality on your own?

Well, I voted for the what you make of it thinger. I know I love to buy things and give them, and I love to receive them as well. But, all through the season, my mind keeps wandering back to the changes in our world this season...and the way you can feel Yule coming on...

In the sixteen/seventeenth centuries it was illegal to celebrate Christmas/Yule...both we're considered Pagan Holidays (that of course, to the Christains, was bad). It wasn't until Santa and other Secular traditions came about that it began to be ok to celebrate...that was the birth of Christams as we know it...buy buy buy
