Another set of important tools for a witch are methods of divination. Some of the most common tools for this kind of magic are runes and tarot.
A little tarot fact. Traditionally, you should not buy your own tarot. My very first tarot deck was a traditional rider-waite that my mom bought for me, and my thoth tarot deck that I use now I got in a trade with Katie when we both found tarot decks that we wanted in Ancient Ways.
There are many kinds of tarot spreads and techniques. it is an art unto itself. My personal favorite spreads are the simple yes/no spread in which the querent (person asking the question) chooses a card from the spread deck and that one card is used to interpret the answer. My other favorite spread is a ten card spread that is fairly detailed. This is your own personal choice, and a fun subject to research.
Runes are cast in any variety of stone or metal, carved in wood, etc. There are tons of kinds. Usually the rune set is the futhark, which consists of 24 runes, and also occasionally depending on the tradition, one blank rune. These runes are cast in a variety of ways and are usually kept in a velvet bag. At home I have some clay runes, though I've eventually got my eye on a set of crystal runes of some kind. None have called to me yet.
