Been doing some thinking on the whole advertising meetings, there really is no "safe" way to do so. And now every idea I had thought about seems stupid, lol. Was thinking of making a reference to religious persicution. Maybe state how whenever anyone drinks an herbal tea they are partaking in something conceived of through wiccans. Not sure. Or we can just say, "Interested in the Wiccan religion of being kind to others and learning what the three-fold law entails, come join us for an evening of information at 9pm in Weller on Wednesday"

That's a good idea....a little bit of education with each advertisement.

I don't blame you for being afraid of advertizing considering my neighbors would give me dirty looks if I mowed my lawn on a sunday.
I once spent nearly half an hour trying to explain to a sophomore in high school that the word "pagan" didn't mean "satanic"...it was a lost cause because she was a PK.
Advertizing is going to have to be handled very delicately...perhaps start by talking about something that people are slightly familiar with, such as astrology.

I don't like the idea of advertising, it smells bad to me...but now we're in the crier, I see. Cross your fingers folks this is where it can get messy....at least we're at the same time as nine so unless they make it a group effort to hunt us down the zealots will be all in one place over thataway *points towards chapel*. And we're watching rocky horror this weekend anyway, which I have never seen. *frowns* they tell me this is a bad thing. Hmm

Hazel, love, I've used your idea in the crier for the next meeting....I tweaked it a little, but there it is! Thanks for the great idea...I didn't have to use my brain, and that's always a plus!

Yeah, we just have to be careful. I don't know, I just remember the advertising incident last year where there was a "satanic cult" on campus thanks to the posting of a pentagram.... that was *fun*.

Well...now that we advertise in the crier, there really are no visuals.
And yes, that kinda SUCKED, but we got through it o.k.

No visuals? You mean no pretty pretty pictures or graphics?? Maybe it would be neat to decorate the border of the advertizement with runes or something to that effect...a pentagram wouldn't be a very popular advertizement in Pella. I wore a large plastic one to school Halloween senior year the night of the school play (I was in the stage crew, dressed in all black like everyone else in the crew) and was accused of being a devil worshipper...that was not a fun night...considering I wore it as part of a halloween costume for fun.

Runes would be an idea....we were just looking for a symbol that any Pagan would recognize.

one of the reasons I'm joining all of you is as the Man in Black. the protector of the Circle. As well I'm going to help you advertise. I know some pagan friendly christians at pella..I'm trying to get ahold of them today for tomarrows celebration of Imbolc.. if I can't reach them today I can reach them when Ic ome into town tomarrow. It might be a good idea to get some pagan friendly or curious groups to watch so they can spread the word. or even having their presence there. inf ront of you showing support. Might at the very least change some ideas.

That'd be wonderful, I just finished talking with a girl living across the hall from me. She was wondering about general things about Wicca, she'd heard some silly crap and wanted to know if what she heard was right or not. Apparently there's some rumor of us praying at one of our meetings for Dr. Roe to get sick and die! Come on people! Are they really that dumb?
I explained to her karma and the rule of 3, the whole "an it harm none, do what ye will", basic information about the god and the goddess, spells, and the whole nature worship sterotype stuff. She listened, and wants to write something up for the Crier/to send to her friends explaining similarities between Christianity and Wicca, I said that would be wonderful and beautiful of her.
Also, I'm going to add an explanation of the Dante's Inferno quote on our door... according to her, some of her friends have been scared by it! They think we're trying to open some kind of gate to Hell or something! *laughs hysterically* So I'll be working on fixing all of that and calming people down a bit. I'll probably put up some stuff on the door itself, some of the same things we'll be showing at the informational faire.
She also sympathized with the harassment and things people have been doing to our board, she said a friend of hers asked to borrow her marker once to fiddle with our board. She said no! Fabulous! I told her just the tiniest bit about the recent and upcoming troubles, just that we want to become official but have heard word that we'll be harasses every inch of the way. I think that's what made her really want to do something informative for us to help people understand us better. She said that information stuff would probably sound better coming from a Christian person than from "one of us" since people are nervous about us. I wish her all the luck in the world, she'll be coming by to show me what she's written in the next few days, before she sends it out or whatnot. Huzzah!
