Ooooh.... a mason jar.
We should gather pretty things to decorate it with and do all the decorating during our big get-together at Midsummer! ;D

Great!!!!
I think we should have unoffical dues, or donations... like $5 a person per semster....what do you think?

That'd be good, once we know of things to spend money on. Like trips to Ancient Ways or something, we could let the dues pay for gas.
Other than gas and feasts at the Sabbats, I'm not sure what we'd have to pay for. Small dues would easily cover that.

There are many variables when dealing with dues, which is why most organizations other than frats & soroties don't deal with them. You must first clearly define who must pay the dues. If it is only official members, it would be every member of this message board... several of whom do not attend Central or even live in this general area. And this is a campus organization. If we narrow it down to only members of Ci.Pa.M. who attend Central and are on the message board that makes 4 people paying dues, but take one out for Study Abroad. It isn't fair to have someone pay dues if that individual isn't going to benefit from it. That makes 3 people at the suggested $5 per person... or $15 a semester into the treasury. That's barely a tank of gas right now. Almost enough for groceries for a small feast.
Yes, we could go to Student Senate, but when asking for money from Senate, we would somehow have to convince them that the money & what it is used for would benefit all of Central College. For instance a small library for Common Ground to be accessable to all of campus or a new printer for the Ray (campus newspaper).
At the Senate meeting when we had the Constitution approved, they asked us if we were going to have dues or come ask them for money. We said that we didn't have dues & that we've been entirely self-funded. If we went to Senate, we would have to be extremely careful because most of those who gave negative feedback in deliberation are still there. The appropriation of funds is a way that Senate can lord themselves over the group, which isn't unheard of for other groups. It is hard to say that a Holiday feast for the Coven can encircle and benefit the entire campus community. Yes, we have had Nick, Miriam, & Matt come to a ritual & feast, but they were invited. Are we going to invite everyone on campus?
I think we need to discuss this & take a vote on it at Midsummer.

Well, due wont have to be official...like we only ask those who attend meetings to give, and only ask...
Hey, maybe we can tithe something, hey it works for Christians!
Oh, and to keep our balance we only should use it when we really need to...

Wow, Towanda... bored much at home? Those are some very good points. I guess, after reading that it would be safe to say that for the time being we're ok without dues. Perhaps in the future there will be more of a demand... for now the system of sharing the fees if you're going to be there, or helping out with other things if you're broke at the time is working. A vote is still a good idea, at Litha--just so that everyone knows what's going on and is ok with it. Are we the only 3 active posters lately? It sure seems like it. ^.^

I actually was falling asleep when I wrote all that. I've been involved with campus organizations since my second week freshman year, so I'm pretty used to how all this stuff goes down. Weee, orgs are definitely my thing. I wasn't even a member of AZX freshman year (still am not), but I got to hear all the problems they were having with dues & funds & fundraisers & AZX Virgin Mixer tees... This is how dues work: they are either official & everyone pays them or they are not done at all. So, what we need to do is take a vote on whether or not we have dues & if the vote goes "yes" to dues, it must be amended into the Constitution. That is how it is done in an organization regardless of type (campus, state, national, international). We're not a church, so we cannot ask for free-will donations every week at meetings. This practice is slightly illegal on campus. I had to fill out a permission slip with the business office so we could have our food & item drive in April.
I agree with Silviata, we should probably leave the system as it is right now. It's been working pretty well. But we do need to discuss this issue as an entire group.

We wouldn't ask for money each time we meet. Maybe we could just tell attending members (to meetings at school) that whem they are able to give that would be great.
What we do about money the school does not have to know about. Besides the school wont give us money anyways.
I'm sure I could drop a few dollors into the pot at ramdom.

I can see it now....
*wild, awesome pagan standing in front of jury-like senate*
"Yes, we'd like to have $200 of your precious dollars, to fund a pagan holiday..."
"And what would you do at this holiday?" *a small person, not unlike rachter pipes up*
"That is not relevant to the situation, could you please re-phrase your question so it is is legal for you to harass them." *another silly senate leader*
*mini-rachter* "Um...derrrrrrrrrrrrrr.....buh......"
*senate leader* "Much better"
*awesome pagan* "Well, we will be celebrating (insert holiday), in an open-campus forum...people will be allowed to come and see our group do a ritual, and then everyone is invited to partake in the post-ritual feast, and ask any questions they would like."
*mini-rachter* "!! That isn't very Christian, now is it?"
*Senate leader* "That question is just kinda dumb, don't you think? I mean, duh, they are PAGANS!"
*mini-rachter* "mumble....going to hell.......err...I mean...um..."
*awesome pagan* "Yah...so....money, yes or no?"
*a reist look-a-like speaks up* "I don't know how this would benefit the campus, just because they are holding it open for all of the campus, and are allowing questions to be asked, and are giving out food, and are being reasonable, this just isn't quite right...babble babble...and the Love of Jesus Christ....babble...(waves hands, pounds desk, shakes finger)...AMEN."
*president cooper* "Well, I think we should vote now, seeing that mini-rachter and reist-a-like have finished"
*senate leader* "but wait! we should at least have mini-rachter harass them a little more! or perhaps we should just do things really differently and hold a silent vote! we are afraid of what they will think of us, after all!"
*awesome pagan* (rolls eyes)
finally, after much drama, some desk pounding from reist-a-like, and a prayer from mini-rachter, we have our $200.
I think it could work!
