en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CopyrightIt would probably be a good idea from now on-ish to leave a link after anything in a post that's a copy-and-paste, so as to make absolute sure that no one can accuse the posters here of copyright infringement. This subject was brought up in another thread and I thought it best to post this here rather than take the thread completely off topic. Nothing personal is meant by this, it's just a good idea to cover our asses and be fair to the original conceivers of these written/drawn works.

I would like everybody to see THISI've been keeping links and citied pages for most of my posts and the one Adam was bitching about had a link. Don't worry, I was concerned about copyright before Adam even posted about them last month. The rules of the message board have been updated to reflect that members here may post writings by other authors as long as the authors are cited, or there is a direct link to the original website.

Perhaps you may need to scratch my first post. According to Proboard's terms of service:
"User's content must comply in a manner consistent with any and all applicable laws of the State of California and the US Federal Government."
What exactly are these laws? I don't have much more time on this computer, I have class soon, but it seems that this is what we have to worry about. We may only be able to post a link, or a small excerpt of the material instead of the entire article/ritual/thing.

I'm sure that as long was we keep a link or cite the author things will be fine. It's not like this is a book that we are trying to publish under our name.
Things are fine as long as we make it clear where the info originated from. We'll make mistakes and forget sometimes but shit happens.
Of course, it will be up to the poster, at first of course. If you feel that you shouldn't post something than don't.
And, as always, if a moderator sees something that needs to be modified or deleted a moderator will just do such a thing.

Copyright MythsAnd, from Wikipedia: Copyright InfringementPublic DomainAnd from Proboards: "The Provider may at it's sole discretion remove any message board for any reason." If you post someone's complete work without their permission, regardless of whether or not you cite your source, you commit copyright infringement. If you commit copyright infringement, you violate the law. If you violate the law, you violate the TOS for Proboards. If you violate the TOS for Proboards, your messageboard may be DELETED!

Well hell... that sucks. Good to know though for future reference and such. Guess we'll have to be careful not to violate that.
How much of their work can you post? I remember all the issues on the Christian Forum with news articles; couldn't they only post the first few sentences only? Should we try to adopt something like that too?
Hmm...

A direct quote from another Proboards message board rules you must agree with to create an account:
"You also agree not to post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or you have consent from the owner of the copyrighted material."
