This is a relaxation exercise which combines visualization, breathing and body awareness. It can be used in order to 'centre' or 'ground' yourself in order to relax. By performing the exercise on a regular basis, you will come to associate physical sensations and emotional responses to the different stages of the exercise.
A) Begin by assuming a comfortable posture and take a few deep, slow breaths until you begin to feel relaxed. Your spine should be held straight, and your head tilted slightly upwards.
B) Imagine a tiny spark of light floating within the depths of your mind. Slowly, as you breathe in and out, it rises until you can see it in front of your eyes. It settles upon the crown of your forehead, where it becomes a sphere of white light.
C) Slowly, a soft while light begins to flow from the sphere, filling the room around you. You know that you are safe within this light, and that is has the power to dispel all doubts, fears and worries.
D) And now, upon your next in-breath, imagine that a bluish fog is forming about you, becoming an sphere that encompasses your body. As you breathe, this blue sphere becomes more solid, until it is electric blue, shimmering and shot through with flecks of gold. Nothing can penetrate this sphere, once you weave it about yourself.
E) Allow yourself time to bask in the sphere of blue energy, and when you feel that you have had enough time, pay attention once more to your breathing. With each successive inhalation, feel that you are drawing the sphere upwards and inwards, so that you are drawing it into your body, and it once more becomes mist, fading from blue to white.
F) When the blue has gone, all that remains around you is the soft while light. Again, with each in-breath and out-breath, allow the light to fade until there is the ball of white light up on the crown of your head.
G) Finally, allow the white sphere to shrink into a spark, and then draw the spark back into the depths of your mind until it vanishes in the darkness. And know that you have the power to call forth the blue sphere whenever you need it.
