I realize that this part of the board is meant generally for people with technical problems, but I didn't know where-else to address this question: Has anyone ever heard of a rune being somehow "imprinted" on a human body? Don't ask me how, but this morning I discovered on my husband's back what appeared to be the Hagalaz rune of the Elder Futhark runes "scratched" into the skin of his right shoulder blade. It is a perfect Hagalaz. My husband is a Virgo ARC (Agnostic Recovering Catholic). Lately he's taken some interest in paganism, and has been reading a book on runelore. The imprint does not cause him any pain, and neither of us have any clue as to how it got there. It could be just a coincidence, but I don't believe those exist, so I think it really means something. I have never seen this or come across it in anything I've read. I've consulted my entire library to no avail. If anyone has any idea as to what this imprinting might mean or how it got there, please share it with me. Thanks!

I feel like I should further expand on the situation and my theories.
As I said before my husband is a Virgo ARC. He is a deeply passionate, wise, well-educated, street smart man. For the reincarnationists out there, I believe he is on somewhere around his 40th-50th lifetime in this realm. He has a very old spirit and has retained a lot of the wisdom and experience from his many journeys here. He's incredibly rational and level-headed, and while I think he wants to believe and does have a great respect for my Craft, he is quite the skeptic of magical things. I do believe his soul subconsciously knows how the imprint got there, and what it means.
Here are my theories: -This might be cell-memory--his spirit causing an imprint of the rune as it was tattooed on him perhaps in a former incarnation as a druid priest in the Celtic age. -It may be a greeting, a salutation from the Other Side...perhaps from a god or a fairy or another spirit. -It might be a warning from the Other Side -It may be something he has unknowingly invoked in his studying of runelore. -It may be something I have invoked unknowingly in my practice -Or any combination of these, or anything I haven't thought of.
Again, any suggestions, ideas, knowledge you may have would be great. This has my curiosity raging.
Many blessings upon you all.

Update:
So hubby just got back from rehearsal for his band and I asked to see his back again. Another mark that I dismissed this morning that is just to the left of the Hagalaz has grown deeper, and the Hagalaz has faded a bit. This next mark is just a line that is about an inch and a half in length (like the Hagalaz). Going with the rune theory it is an Isa. It looks like the runes are saying, in English, "HI". We also looked up the numerology for these to runes, Hagalaz is 9 and Isa is 11. 9-11.
This is now definitely and undeniably a signal.
Just thought you, who are helping me out, should know. I really appreciate your assistance.
And please forgive the dramatic formality of my language in these posts...I've been watching the LOTR trilogy today.
Blessings!

That's kinda scary, Jess! Well, Katie's at work right now, and it's 3am here in Spain, so when she gets home we'll chat a little and see if we can come up with more help. Here are some questions or suggestions that might help a little. Have you tried scrubbing his back with a little salt to pull out whatever influence it is? What kind of energy signature does this carry, if any? Do you feel on your intuition that it is harmful, or just alarming? Have you smudged your home lately? Have you put up a ward on him to see if it would prevent further umm...carvings? Have you felt uncomfortable or strange lately? Has he? When you look at these symbols, what is your gut reaction? Just a note: Hagalaz is one of three runes that can have a negative connotation, along with isa and nied. So it could be hi, but if you start to see nied, that's kind of a bad sign, probably. Be on the lookout. If you want more rune references, I'm not sure if you saw the entries in symbols/runes, they might help you out a little, but knowing you you've already researched it a bit, eh?

The divinatory meanings of hagalaz and isa are generally negative. Also, both are found in Heimdall's Aett the and both cannot be reversed.

Have you tried scrubbing his back with a little salt to pull out whatever influence it is? -Nope but thats a really good idea.
What kind of energy signature does this carry, if any? Do you feel on your intuition that it is harmful, or just alarming? -It has a very neutral energy. Benign. Its just raising my curiosity...like it has a deeper meaning than what it looks like...
Have you smudged your home lately? -Its been a couple months....bad witch.
Have you put up a ward on him to see if it would prevent further umm...carvings? -He's already covered on my main ward, as well as my cat. But I'll do a special one.
Have you felt uncomfortable or strange lately? Has he? -There has been an incredible amount of energy in our apartment and in our neighbors apartment. We've had about 4 or 5 ghosts that I've had to help cross over or banish from our home. There have been a lot of animal spirits appearing in the corners and guarding the hallway. In particular, large cats (a panther I think) which I think are one of my husband's totems. I've been catching glimpses of feiries a lot in the past month. Not all of the energy has been uncomfortable, but I have been uneasy at times when I'm alone in the apartment. If he's been feeling uncomfortable or strange, he's keeping it to himself for the time being. (The never-resting skeptic)
When you look at these symbols, what is your gut reaction? -That it bears a message, even if it is just a "hey, how ya doin'?"....though I feel its an important message that isn't to be ignored.
I really appreciate your help! You guys are wonderful and I miss you so much!

*thinks*
Hmmm...well....
*feels useless*
One thing...'cause my brain is a mess from work, but whenever I study or learn, I become intense about it. Perhaps your husband has some sort of connection with Hagalaz and Isa, and found them more interesting than the others....and that is expressing as carving.
A dumb idea, but the best I can do right now.
But, when totems show up, messages come.

Yeah, I've never heard of anything like this ever happening. It's just so weird, it could be any number of things. But it's a very good thing that you don't get a negative reaction to them. If afterwards you see nied, I would definitely do a thorough cleansing on all three of you, including the cat And the house. Those are three negative runes and carry a clear message. I would do a smudging anyway, just because strange things are happening, you've already had a lot of activity in the house, and it's a good precaution. Pull together a special circle and put a special ward on him. Also meditate and see if you can get an answer from the goddess as to what's going on, or at least if you should be worrying about it. What else can I suggest...hmm...see because since you already have established that you're pretty sure it's a message, there is the small thing of figuring out where the hell it's coming from, and if its an exterior source or not- and that's hard to determine from my angle. But taking a few precautions would be a good thing anyway, methinks.

Well, those marks have faded completely, as of last night. I did do a smudging of our home, a salt concoction, and a special ward for hubby, along with many prayers for answers, and good will toward him.
While it still puzzles me, I'm not quite as worried about as I was. We're still going to keep and eye on it for a while.
It was interesting, during the smudging, I felt as though I was really pushing someone away with every room. I've felt that a couple of times trying to get rid of ghosts, but never this intensely. I'm wondering if Seth wasn't on the recieving end of a mild-moderate psychic attack. Just wish I knew the source of this all...I'll just keep asking.
Thanks everyone, for all your help!
Blessed be!
